The team from Java's eastern area was eager to get rid of the Thai players following BTS' earlier group stage defeat to the same Hongyen club.

Given that we also won the Indonesian league championship, it is astonishing that Indonesia has won this game for the first time. We were confident since we started with a specific goal in mind. Hector Souto, the head coach of BTS, remarked, "We are champions; thus, we should be delighted that we won a challenging game."

Two Thai teams that had won each of the previous six matches were Chonburi Bluewave in 2019 and Port FC in 2015, 2016, and 2018. (2019 and 2021).

The main source of inspiration for BTS at this period was Edison Machado Coelho. In a recent dramatic match, BTS defeated Black Steel Manokwari to win the Indonesian League championship.

Wendel Mendes of Hongyen and Katawut Phoopan, the captain of BTS, both had early scoring opportunities. But in the 11th minute, Samuel Eko Tampubolon gave BTS the lead by curving a shot past Jaroenpong Prasansat.

Four minutes later, Coelho increased BTS's lead by dodging two opponents and outmuscling Jaroenpong to the ball.

Ampol Sriragaew's free kick in the 18th minute gave Hongyen an opportunity to gain momentum and boost the ante.

Keattisak Songkhrao's equalizer two minutes into the second half caused the Hongyen supporters to stand.

BTS kept going. Midway through the game, Andri Kustiawan profited from a lost ball to retake the lead. Six minutes later, Coelho took advantage of a scoring opportunity for Hongyen, bringing the score to 4-2.

During the dramatic final game, tempers flared after Hongyen's Katawut was ejected from the game and BTS received two yellow cards, one of which was given to head coach Souto.

Selangor MAC of Malaysia, Singapore's Bintang Timur, won the match 8-7 on penalties against Sahako FC of Vietnam.

The score was knotted at 2-2 at the conclusion of regulation.

Dinh Van Toan and Duong Ngoc Linh scored goals for Sahako in the fifth and 32nd minutes, respectively, while Matheus Silva and Mohd Khairul Effendy Mohd Bahrin scored goals for Selangor MAC in the 14th and 32nd minutes, respectively (29th).
